What is Tutorial Action?

Tutorial action is an inherent teaching practice in the educational function. It is aimed at guiding students in their learning process, fostering the ability to choose according to their interests, abilities, and personal situation, so that they develop autonomous management skills.

Anyone who is an educational reference is involved in developing a task that involves an individualized and significant relationship with the student.

A tutorial action plan must contribute to the comprehensive development of students so that they achieve a level of maturity that allows them to integrate into society actively, creatively, and responsibly.

The objectives of tutorial action for early childhood and primary education are:

  1. Teaching to BE A PERSON. Personal knowledge, self-esteem, personal and relational autonomy.
  2. Teaching to COEXIST. Development of independence and personal initiative and social and civic competence, highlighting:
  • Fostering the integration of the student into their group and center by promoting participatory activities and values construction.
  • Respect for coexistence rules, as well as for their classmates and teachers.
  • Activating cooperation, solidarity, and group work while respecting the rules.
  • Developing basic social skills for good coexistence.
  • Generating fluid relationships between students and the school, as well as between the school and families.
  1. Teaching TO LEARN. Curricular educational competencies.

Advancing in Tutorial Action

If we continue with the guidance of secondary school students or other training spaces, tutorial action unfolds certain functions such as:

1. Vocational and professional guidance: Providing information about careers, educational options, and job opportunities, as well as advising on decision-making related to higher education choices or entry into the workforce.

2. Development of study skills: Offering effective study techniques, time management strategies, stress management methods, and tools to improve concentration and memory.

3. Promotion of equal opportunities: Supporting all students, including those with special educational needs or in vulnerable situations, to ensure they have equitable access to educational resources and opportunities.

4. Prevention of school dropout: Identifying signs of demotivation, low academic performance, or personal problems that may lead to school dropout early and offering appropriate interventions and support to prevent it.

5. Cooperation with families and communities: Maintaining open and collaborative communication with parents, guardians, and community members to promote holistic education.

Benefits of Creative Tutoring

1. Creative tutoring promotes, through the voice and action of students, processes of self-awareness, dialogue, reflection, and development of socio-emotional skills (active listening, empathy, assertiveness, communication, conflict resolution...).

2. Diverse tutoring comes together with the purpose of strengthening the interrelationship among all agents of the educational community, creating a space of freedom and trust where expressing doubts and concerns regarding their learning, as well as their emotions and feelings, is prioritized.

3. Innovative tutoring allows valuing relationships with peers as a way to reestablish one's own identity and recognize individual differences and diversity, as well as collective identity, which is built from the establishment of motivations, tasks, and group goals.

4. Playful tutoring, based on current neuroscience studies, has been found to favor creative thinking and effective learning. The playful attitude and games foster self-awareness, stimulate the discovery of others, and promote a free and safe space.
